I heard an excellent sermon illustration today and wanted to share it. It is paraphrased below:
Have you ever been in a situation where you have something else going on that prevents you from watching your favorite team play live, so you record the game in order to watch it later? Then, before you get a chance to watch it, someone lets slip that your team won the game???
Now if they had lost, you probably wouldn’t even watch the game you had recorded. I know I wouldn’t. But, if you knew they had won, you might just watch it anyway.
And if you do, don’t you find that you watch it with a much different perspective than if you didn’t know the ending?
You may find your team in dire straits, down by three scores in the fourth quarter, but you would remain confident. You may not know how they are going to manage it, but you know the end result is a win. So you just sit back and think, “It’s going to be amazing getting to see how the team works this one out!”
Well, in our lives, we don’t always know how God is working things out, but we know the end result is a win.
That’s right. WE KNOW THE ENDING!!
And knowing the ending should give us a completely different perspective as we watch the events around us unfold.
I don’t know why so and so is happening.
But I DO know that God is in control, has a plan, and will see his promises carried out.
So, it’s going to be amazing getting to see that winning plan unfold!
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9 ESV).
