Have you ever wondered what it really means to serve others?
Have you wondered what an authentic, selfless attitude looks like?
We need only look to Christ. Take a look at what Paul says about the servant attitude of the Son of God:
“Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross” (Phil. 2:5-8 ESV).
Jesus Christ, GOD HIMSELF, gave it up for a bunch of people who couldn’t have cared less about him.
How far, then, should we go in our service to others?
I think we know the answer, even if it may not sit well with our “me first” nature.
Any time we might start making excuses for why someone doesn’t deserve our help, it may be a good idea to think about how WE didn’t deserve HIS help, either.
Thank you, Jesus, for your example and for your love.
