The power of one

saved to be silent

Scripture tells us that “faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” Rom. 10:17 (ESV).

We are also told that, as Christians, we are Christ’s ambassadors and that God makes “his appeal through us” 2 Cor. 5:20 (ESV).

In other words, we have both the amazing opportunity and responsibility to share the Gospel with others. It is through this sharing that the Holy Spirit works on the hearts and minds of an unbelieving world.

So, we should never take lightly this responsibility, remembering that if it were not for faithful Christians sharing Jesus’ love with us, we would not be where we are today, resting in the peace and assurance of eternal salvation.

Likewise, we must never underestimate what God can do with our faithfulness. Below is a wonderful and powerful example:

“One salesman and Sunday school teacher, Edward Kimball, led a young man named Dwight to Christ.

Dwight Moody became a blazing evangelist who it is said, led one million souls to Christ in his short lifetime.

Wilbur Chapman received the assurance of his salvation after talking with Moody and went on to become a noted evangelist himself.

The drunken baseball player Billy Sunday was an assistant to Chapman before becoming the most famous evangelist of his day.

One of the fruits of Sunday’s ministry was the forming of a group of Christian businessmen in Charlotte, NC. This group brought the evangelist Mordecai Ham to Charlotte in 1934.

A tall awkward youth named Billy Graham was converted during those meetings.

According to his staff, literally millions of people have come forward at his crusades to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.”

So, millions of Christians can trace their “spiritual lineage” back to the faithfulness of one man, Sunday school teacher Edward Kimball, who simply shared the love of Jesus and allowed God to take care of the rest.

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF ONE

It’s up to us to be faithful to our calling.

“For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” Rom. 10:13-15 (ESV).
